He probably lived with his brother William in what was then Northumberland County, Pennsylvania, when the first census was taken in 1790. He removed from Susquehanna County to Woodcockboro, Pennsylvania, in 1799. He was a soldier in the War of 1812; an elder in the Presbyterian Church; and a Democrat. He resided in Woodcock, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, until his death.

He settled in Woodcock Township, Crawford County, Pennsylvania, in 1808.
