After taking a course in the Brookville high school (from which he graduated with first honors), he entered Pennsylvania State College and was one of the first honor men when graduated from that institution. He then became a student in the scientific department of Cornell University, where he took a course in blacksmithing, intending to fit himself for mining engineering. He died in Parral, Mexico, when twenty-two years old.
