Born in Grove City in 1908, he was a son of Elvin C. and Elizabeth Lusher Bowden.

After moving to Ohio, Mr. Bowden taught math at the Mayfield City School, Mayfield Heights, until retiring in 1970. He then became an elementary school crossing guard for 15 years.
Active at The Heights Presbyterian Church, he was an elder, deacon and Sunday school teacher. The Bowdens guided a youth group at the church when they first became members.
Survivors include two daughters, Janet Bowden of Cleveland and Marilyn Peckinpaugh of Moreland Hills, Ohio; two grandsons; and relatives in Lawrence County, including brothers-in-law, Joseph and David Jameson, and their families.
