General Notes: Husband - David Boucher
He was born in Hamburg, Berks County, Pennsylvania, and when twelve years old came with his parents to Somerset County. He was bred a farmer, and acquired land in Turkeyfoot township.
In 1833 he removed from Somerset County to Ligonier, Westmoreland County, purchased lands near that place from William Ross, and became a very successful farmer. He was a man of deep convictions, and manifested great earnestness in any cause which enlisted his attention. In politics he was a Whig, and later a Republican. He was most noted, however, in church work, being a Methodist of the old style, and vigorous in supporting his church and in upholding its principles.
Of his sons with his first wife, Hiram, alone, remained in Ligonier valley, the rest, with one exception, Simon, having gone to California to search for gold shortly after its discovery.
Though speaking with a pronounced German accent, he was fluent in the use of the English language, which many of his acquaintances styled "using big words," but those who knew him best say that he used them correctly.
