He left considerable property at his death and his will contained an item in cash amounting to £625 19s 5d. In the distribution of his property it was further stated in the will that Chester, the eldest son, should receive double the amount paid the others. This seemed scarcely fair in consideration of the fact that his family consisted of ten children, but was in strict accordance with the old-time custom of favoring the eldest son.
