General Notes: Husband - Irwin Scott Flegal, M.D.
He was reared in Goshen township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, and attended the schools there in boyhood and for several years was a student in the summer Normal schools in Clearfield and during one year in the State Normal School at Edinboro. He then began to teach school and continued from October, 1883, until 1891, in the meanwhile doing his preparatory medical reading, and in the latter year entered the Western Pennsylvania Medical College at Pittsburgh, where he was graduated with his degree in 1894. He chose Lumber City as his first field for practice, and remained there for two and one-half years, coming then to Karthaus, where he became established in January, 1897. He conducted a drug store there beginning in 1901, although it was his custom to handle and compound his own prescriptions ever since he entered into medical practice.
He was one of the organizers of the Karthaus Rural Telephone Company, of which he was secretary; he served as township supervisor for three years and gave his time and attention to furthering educational interests. He was a member of the American Medical Association together with the county and state organizations.
