He was born in Newmarket, Virginia, and after his marriage removed to Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, locating on the Susquehanna river. In 1813 he came to Gaskill township, Jefferson County, where he purchased 150 acres of timber land and built a log house and barn. He afterward erected a house, and made many other substantial improvements.
He came to western Pennsylvania from West Virginia and engaged in general farming in Gaskill township, Jefferson County, until a few years before his death, when he was obliged to retire on account of ill health.
