General Notes: Husband - Henry C. Boggs
He was reared at Evans City, Butler County, PA, and received his education in the district school. In 1870 he engaged in merchandising at Evans City, and has continued in that line up to the present. In 1888 he formed a partnership with John W. Kline, since which time the firm of Boggs & Kline carried on business. He was one of the organizers of the Long Oil Company, was treasurer of the same, and was interested in several other oil productions. In 1865 he enlisted in Company I, Seventy-eighth Pennsylvania Volunteers, in which he served seven months.
He was a Republican in politics, was appointed postmaster of Evans City by President Grant, and served twelve years. He was again appointed by President Harrison, in 1889, and served his full term. He filled the office of school director, and was also a member of the borough council. He was a member of Captain Stewart Post, G. A. R., also of Evans City Lodge, I. O. O. F., and the Select Knights, and the A. O. U. W. He and his family were members of the Baptist church of Evans City, in which he served as treasurer, and took quite an active part in the erection of the church building.
