He came to Venango County, PA, in 1834, at the same time as his brother William, settling first in Sugarcreek township, where he remained four years, then moving to Canal township. He had a family of five children, four of whom died in­side of three weeks time, in 1851. He had three sons with his second wife. He was elected County Commissioner in 1851, and served a term of three years.
