His education was secured in the public schools of West Finley Township, Washington County, Pennsylvania, and Oberlin College, Oberlin, Ohio. His main business in life was along agricultural lines. He owned 382 acres of valuable farming and grazing land in Donegal and West Finley Townships, where he resided until removing to West Alexander. In politics he was a Republican. He was a director in the West Alexander National Bank and prominent in the business affairs of the town and community.
He was a member of and active in the business affairs of the Presbyterian Church.
