from Turkey City, Clarion Co, PA

He started in business for himself in 1865, at Titus-ville, Pennsylvania, and was thereafter interested in the production of petro-leum, locating at Bradford in 1880. He was in the main successful (although in one year he put down nine dry wells), and was associated with his brother, T. E. McCray, beginning in 1871. In politics he was a Republican, and served as a member of the council of Bradford. He was a member of the Royal Templars of Temperance. He and his wife were regular attendants of the Methodist Church, but were not members of that denomination.
