General Notes: Husband - Maj. Alexander Parker
He was a distinguished officer of the Revolutionary War.
He was an early associator at the outset of the war of the Revolution; was commissioned second lieutenant of the Sixth Pennsylvania battalion, Col. William Irvine, January 9, 1776; promoted first lieutenant, October 25, 1776; served as captain of the Pennsylvania Line in the Seventh regiment, March 21, 1777; transferred to Fourth Pennsylvania, January 17, 1781, and subsequently to Second Pennsylvania, January 1, 1783, serving until the close of the war.
He was one of the original members of the Society of the Cincinnati. He laid out the town of Parkersburg, West Virginia, at the mouth of the Little Kanawha, where he had extensive land possessions.
In the old graveyard at the Meeting House springs, two miles northwest of Carlisle, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, there is a large slab covering the remains of Major Parker and two of his children, bearing this inscription: Sacred to the memory of Major Alexander Parker and his two children Margaret and John.
There are no dates given of birth or death.
General Notes: Wife - Rebecca Blair
When she married McClure, she was the widow of Gen. Parker, of the War of 1812. [HCC 1886, 384] But this seems unlikely given the dates known for various members of the family.
She died suddenly while in attendance at service in the Associate, or Seceder church, Carlisle, Pennsylvania.
