He was reared in Beaver County, Pennsylvania, and for many years was engaged in merchandising in New Brighton. In 1879 he accepted a position in the Beaver Falls car works. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and the Royal Arcanum; he was a R. A. M.; politically a Republican.
