General Notes: Husband - William Bolton


He was born in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, and there learned his father's trade and business. He located in Irwin in 1858, when a lad of sixteen years. After his marriage, he started a butcher business in Circleville, which continued for thirty years, known as William Bolton & Son. He was a leading member of the Methodist Episcopal church for thirty-five years, joining the church at the age of seventeen, and for a time was superintendent of the Sunday school of the Circleville church.

He was reared at home, acquiring his education in the common schools. At the age of fifteen he left home and went to Irwin, Pennsylvania, where he found employment in the coal mines and continued for fifteen years. He then engaged in the butcher business at Circleville. He was very active in church work and belonged to the Methodist Episcopal church. In politics he was a Republican, and served as member of the school board for many years and also as township auditor.

He and his wife were the parents of three sons and six daughters, eight of whom were still living in 1918.
