General Notes: Husband - Samuel C. Bole
He was reared on the old family homestead and attended the township schools. When the Civil war was precipitated he was assisting his father in his farm activities and he was one of the first to decide to enlist to aid in the suppression of the rebellion. He entered Company E, 4th Pennsylvania Cavalry, under Capt. J. A. Herren, and served for three years and ten months, his command being attached to the Army of the Potomac. Although he escaped many of the hazards of war he suffered imprisonment, being captured by the Confederate soldiers at Little Washington, Pennsylvania, and was confined in two of the military prisons of the South, Libby and Belle Isle, for eight long months. After he returned home from the army he located at Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where he embarked in the mercantile business, continuing thus until the autumn of 1884, when he came to Leechburg, Armstrong County, and occupied a residence on Main street. Mr. Bole became extensively interested in the natural gas business, operating on his own account, and at the same time looking after his real estate interests.
