He was educated at Allegheny City College (Reformed Presbyterian), Allegheny City, Pennsylvania, graduating therefrom in 1862. After a thorough course of study at the Reformed Presbyterian Theological Seminary, he graduated in the class of 1867. His first charge was at Clarksburg.
