General Notes: Husband - Henry Black
The first American ancestor of the Black family came to the Marsh creek region near Gettysburg with the early Scotch-Irish emigration, to what was then part of York County, Pennsylvania. Shortly after the Revolution they migrated to Somerset County, where Henry Black was a prominent lawyer and was elected a member of Congress as a Whig in 1841.
He was for twenty years an associate judge of Somerset County, was a member of the State legislature and a representative in Congress.
