General Notes: Husband - A. T. Black
He learned the trade of blacksmith, which he followed for twenty-five years in Grove City, Mercer County, PA, having moved there in 1846. In 1861 he enlisted in Company F, Fifty-seventh Pennsylvania Volunteers, and served until the close of the war; was wounded at the battle of Gettysburg, and held as prisoner in Belle Isle and Libby Prisons for three months. In 1866 Mr. Black was elected sheriff of the county, and held that office for three years; he also held township offices of supervisor, school director, etc. He was a member of Marion Craig Post, No. 325, G. A. R., of Grove City. He and family were members of the Presbyterian Church of that place.
