He was born on the family farm, his early home being in a log cabin. The schools of the neighborhood afforded him an ed-ucation, and he followed farming and lum-bering there from early manhood. After the old homestead came into his possession he did much to improve it, and of the 120 acres which it contained he kept 105 under culti-vation.
