He came from Germany to the United States a young married man. He settled first on a small tract in McCandless township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, but a few years later purchased a farm of fifty acres, which he cleared and on which he erected the buildings. He was a member of the Roman Catholic Church, and in politics a Democrat.
