He was a prominent lawyer at Kenton, Ohio, having been admitted to the bar in 1882. He served multiple terms as mayor of Kenton and was appointed a trustee of the Columbus State Hospital by Governor Bushnell. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and a teacher in the Sunday School.
