General Notes: Husband - Robert C. Black
He grew up on his father's homestead in Butler County, Pennsylvania, and became the owner of two hundred acres of the paternal property, where he followed farming successfully.
He took the deepest interest in the military affairs of his country, and more especially in those of the county in which he lived. He was an adjutant in the local militia of Butler County, and was later promoted to the rank of major. Politically he was a Democrat. He was one of the most active members of the United Presbyterian church, and a leader in the Sabbath school work.
