Another source notes that he was born at Spencer Creek, Centre County, Pennsylvania.
In 1804 he moved with his father to that part of Armstrong County which later became Clarion County. They settled near the Poke Furnace, engaging in farming and lumbering, and were among the first and prominent families of the county.
He was a noted river pilot, and also devoted consid-erable attention to farming.
He was Democratic in politics, voting twice for Gen. Jackson, and was a prominent member of the Presbyterian Church.
He died in January, 1876. [HMEF, 959]
