He came to Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, from his native city, Philadelphia, with his parents in 1852, when six years of age, and was there reared and educated. He gave his attention to farming and dairying, and his operations met with success. He was a Lutheran in religion, and a Democrat in politics.
