General Notes: Husband - Dr. William F. Beyer, M.D.
He received his elementary education in the district schools near his early home, and subsequently took an academic course at Dayton, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, where he was prepared for college. Lack of means, however, prevented him from carrying out his plans in that direction, and he began the study of medicine with Dr. C. McEwen, as preceptor. In 1879 he completed the course in Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, and at once located at Punxsutawney, where he soon established an extensive practice. He was the local surgeon for the P. & N. W. R. R. after its construction. In 1892 he took a post-graduate course on the treatment of the eye. He was a prominent member of the Jefferson County Medical Society, of which he was president at one time, and of the Pennsylvania State Medical Society; and of the American Medical Association. He served as delegate from the first named organization. He was a past grand in the I. O. O. F., with which he was identified for twenty-four or more years, and he twice held the office of district deputy. Politically his sympathies were always with the Republican party, and, while he was not an office seeker, he made his influence felt on the side of protection and honest money. He is president of the Electric Light & Power Co., and of the Citizens Bank of Punxsutawney. He was president of the Board of Health of Punxsutawney. He was one of the organizers of Punxsutawney Water Company, and was a director in the same from its organization.
He was a graduate of Jefferson Medical College in the spring of 1879.
He was one of the oldest physicians in Punxsutawney. He was also interested in lumber and coal. He was president of the Punxsutawney Light Company, a stockholder in the First National Bank and a very influential business man, outside his practice of medicine.
