He grew to manhood in Chester County, Pennsylvania, and was there twice married, Catherine Black being his second wife. They came to Allegheny County, prior to September 8, 1801, locating at Middletown, later Coraopolis, although they soon after moved to South Beaver township, Beaver County, there purchasing a large farm.
He and his wife were members of the Presbyterian church, and for many years he held the office of justice of the peace in South Beaver township, being a Whig in political convictions. He passed the latter years of his life in retirement in Darlington, Pennsylvania.
