General Notes: Husband - John Walter
He was reared and educated in Washington township, Franklin County, Pennsylvania. He learned the trade of a wagonmaker, and conducted the business for a number of years. He afterward engaged in the manufacture of a revolving hayrake, of which he bought the patent. With Gen. James Burns, he invented a sausage cutter, which they patented and which proved a successful invention. Later he engaged in the manufacture of marble tombstones, purchasing the marble works of William Loughridge, near Waynesboro, which he owned and managed until 1861, when he retired.
