General Notes: Husband - Thomas Bigham
Westmoreland Co, PA
The name of Bigham is a corruption or changed form of Bingham, and as far as known the Binghams and Bighams in America are derived from the same north of Ireland family and are supposed to be descendants of Sir John de Bingham, who came over with William the Conqueror, was knighted for his valient services and allotted estates near Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. One of these Binghams (Thomas), according to tradition, about 1480 emigrated from Sheffield to the north of Ireland, and there founded that branch of the family which seems so fully represented in this country. Be that as it may, Thomas J. Bigham, upon comparison of family histories, considered himself akin to the Binghams of Philadelphia and Ohio, the Bighams of Adams and Mercer counties, Pennsylvania, and many other Bighams and Binghams throughout the country.
He and his wife were farming people of Scotch-Irish ancestry and revolutionary stock on both sides.
