He was educated in the public schools and the Lock Haven State Normal School, in which institution he was a student for two years. Following this he spent two years on the road representing a medical supply house and afterward passed four years on a farm. Then he turned his attention to merchandising, buying the stock of L. L. Hile, at Berwinsdale, and thereafter conducted a first class general store, supplying a large surrounding territory. On January 24, 1900, he was appointed postmaster at Berwinsdale. In politics he is an independent thinker and voter. He served for nine years on the school board. He and his wife are members of the Presbyterian church.
