General Notes: Husband - Robert Bell

He came to America in 1765 from County Down, North of Ireland, and served as clerk to General Knox during the Revolutionary War from 1777 to the close of the war, after which he settled in York County, Pennsylvania, (in the region which later became Adams County), and lived there until his death.

He served the cause of the colonies in the War of the American Revolution and afterward settled in Fayette County, Pennsylvania, where he was appointed lieutenant in the Pennsylvania State troops for the protection of the frontier.

There is a great deal of confusion in the sources about the early generations of this family.
