Upon his return from the army [Civil War?], he attended Duff's Business School in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and engaged in mercantile and building business. He moved to the middle west but soon returned to Pennsylvania, becoming engaged there and in West Virginia in building and contracting. He finally located in Uniontown, Pennsylvania.
