George E. Bell
FRANKLIN — George E. Bell, 81, of 302 15th St., Franklin, a retired plumber, died at 11:40 pm Tuesday in Franklin Hospital.
He had been a patient at the hospital since April 11.
Born December 23, 1898, in Franklin, he was the son of Herschel and Louise Hogue Bell.
He spent the most of his life in the Franklin area, attending the Fourteenth Street School and Union School.
A plumber by trade, Mr. Bell worked in a partnership with his brother, the late Henry Bell. He later worked for various contractors in the area. At one time, he worked at sites where atomic bombs were built.
At the time of his retirement in 1960. he was employed by Eckert Plumbing in Oil City.
Mr. Bell was an ardent sportsman. He was a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union, Local 37, and the 55 Up Club.
He first married Iva Steele December 2, 1918. She died in 1973. He married Mildred Fury on January 9, 1975, and she survives.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a step-daughter, Mrs. William H. (Virginia) Beatty of Franklin; two step­sons, Clarence L. Walters of Mobile, Ala., and Albert B. Walters of Franklin; seven step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
He was the last surviving member of his family. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Fred (Josephine) King, and a brother, Henry H. Bell.
Friends will be received after 2 pm today at the Huff Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm today.
Funeral services will be held at 11 am Friday at the funeral home with Rev. William P. McCray, retired United Methodist minister, officiating.
Interment will be in Franklin Ceme­tery.
