General Notes: Husband - Jacob West

He served four years in the Revolutionary war, and with his father endured the hardships of the winter at Valley Forge. Subsequently he moved to Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where he engaged in farming, and in addition to this he ran a six-horse team and wagon from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh on the Somerset and Philadelphia pike. He moved to Fairfield township, Westmoreland County, about 1834, worked on the old canal, and settled on the West farm which was located near the West school house. He was a Presbyterian in religion, and a Whig in politics. [HWC 1906 iii, 218] The same source gives the year of his birth as 1768. He must have been very young when he served in the Revolutionary army!
