General Notes: Husband - William Bell, Sr.
He was a native of Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, and came to Butler County about 1796. He entered a tract of about 500 acres of land in what is now Washington township, where he spent the remainder of his life. He was killed while assisting in the erection of a neighbor's house, and left a family of five sons and four daughters. He was a man of considerable prominence in his locality, and was widely known for his great antipathy to Indians, against whom he had seen much service. He had lost several of his brothers and ancestry during the Indian wars, consequently had little love for the red man.
