General Notes: Husband - William Beistel

Donegal Twp, Westmoreland Co, PA; Cook Twp, Westmoreland Co, PA - a farmer

Civil War: He enlisted in Co. B, 28th Reg. Pa. Vols. and was under Sherman in Georgia and in his march to the sea.
He was with General Sherman's army from Chattanooga and Rocky Face Ridge until Atlanta fell, September 2, 1864. They left Atlanta for Savannah, November 15, 1864, arriving there on December 15, and entered the city December 26, after a siege of eleven days. January 26, 1865, they left Savannah and marched through the Carolinas to Raleigh, where Sherman received the surrender of Johnston, after which the army marched to Washington, D. C.

He was a farmer by occupation. In politics and religion he followed the traditions of his family, being a Republican and a member of the Lutheran church.
