He settled in what was then Sugar Creek (now Washington) township, Armstrong County, Pennsylvania, clearing a farm on which he spent the remainder of his life, following farming. He gave all his time to his own affairs, making many improvements on his land, and was a quiet, unassuming citizen, with no desire to mingle in public matters. He died at the age of sixty-two years, a member of the Lutheran Church.
