General Notes: Husband - Aaron Beighley


He was reared on his father's farm and received a common school education. In August, 1862, he enlisted in Company F, One Hundred and Thirty-seventh Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, was mustered into service at Pittsburgh, and served until June 1, 1863, when he was honorably discharged. On February 15, 1864, he reenlisted in Company F, One Hundred and Twelfth Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, and went with his regiment to Georgetown Camp, thence to Fort Ethan Allen, Cold Harbor, City Point, Weldon Railroad, Chapman's Farm and Petersburg, and was discharged at Philadelphia, January 29, 1866. Returning to Butler County he learned the carpenter's trade and worked in New Castle, Pennsylvania, until 1876. In that year he located in Bullion Oil Field and began in the oil producing business. In 1883 he came to Butler, Pennsylvania, and was superintendent of rig building for the T. W. Phillips Gas & Oil Company.
He was a Republican and a member of the United Presbyterian Church, of which he was trustee for many years.
