He attended the public schools of Clarion, Pennsylvania, the Clarion State Normal and the State University. On leaving school he accepted a position with his father and beginning at the bottom thoroughly learned the business. At the death of his father he became executor of his estate. He also operated the oil, gas and lumber industries.
