General Notes: Husband - Jiles White
He was a direct descendant from William and Mary White, who came over to America in the Mayflower, and to whom a son, Peregrine, was born on that famous vessel. They settled in Massachusetts, and the first bearing the family name to locate in Pennsylvania was Jiles White, who moved from Vermont to New York, and then to Pennsylvania, building the first mill on the Brokenstraw River in Warren County. It was in 1799 when that early pioneer brought his wife and five children up the Allegheny River to where Franklin now stands. Leaving them comfortably housed there, he spent the entire winter in hunting for a suitable home. This he located at a place for many years known as Whitestown, later as Mullingar, and finally as Garland. He was very successful in his business affairs and lived there the remainder of his life.
