General Notes: Husband - R. William Thompson

He was reared on the family farm in Lawrence township, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania, and attended the local schools. At the age of sixteen years he took up carpentering with his father, and after his father met with an accident, entered the employ of Thorn and Burthfield. In 1896 he began learning the undertaking business in the establishment of James Fullerton of Pittsburgh, and also took a course at the Champion College of Embalming of Pittsburgh. After receiving a diploma from that institution he embarked in the business for himself, buying out Gearhart & Sharbough of Clearfield. He later built his business block, which was located on West Locust street, near Turn Pike avenue, and beginning in January, 1909, had his residence in this block, where he also conducted the business and had his office. Mr. Thompson was fraternally a Mason, a member of the I. O. O. F. and Encampment, the P. O. S. of A., the O. U. A. M. and Royal Arcanum.
