Samuel Beckett.
Samuel Beckett, 80, well known and highly respected resident of Tionesta for the past eight years, died at 9 o'clock Thursday morning at his home after an illness of two years.
Mr. Beckett was born January 1, 1853 in New Castle, Ohio, and in 1883 located in the thriving lumber town of Endeavor, Forest county, and there spent the greater part of his life, filling the position of locomotive engineer on the Hickory Valley railroad for the Wheeler & Dusenbury Lumber company.
In 1887 he was married to Miss Hattie Ordelia Lesher of East Hickory, at Jamestown, N. Y. He is survived by his widow, one son, Mountie W. Beckett, Youngstown; one daughter, Martha Beckett Fox, New Castle, Pa.; also three grandchildren: Forrest S. Beckett, Youngstown; and Bobby and Beverly Fox, New Castle.
He was a member of Eaton lodge, No. 666, I. O. O. F., Tidioute, and of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the family home, with Rev. Paul Scott, Tionesta, and Rev. William Thomas, Endeavor, officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Collins cemetery.

Samuel T. Beckett
Samuel T. Beckett, aged 80 years, a well known and highly respected resident of Tionesta for the past 8 years, died at his home at 9 o'clock Thursday morning, July 6, 1933, following an illness of two years.
Mr. Beckett was born January 1, 1933, in New Castle, Ohio. In 1883 he located in the thriving lumber town of Endeavor, Forest County, and there spent the greater part of his lifetime, filling the postion of locomotive engineer on the Hickory Valley Railroad for Wheeler & Dusenbury. He was one of the company's most faithful and valued employes and eight years ago retired from active service under the company's pension system. Since that time he had made his home in Tionesta where he had a wide circle of friends, all of whom held him in the highest esteem as a good citizen.
In 1887 he was united in marriage with Miss Hattie Ordelia Lusher, of East Hickory, at Jamestown, N. Y. Surviving are his widow, one son, Mauntie Wray Beckett, of Youngstown, Ohio, and one daughter, Mrs. Martha Beckett Fox, of New Castle, Pa.; also two brothers, Isaac Beckett, of Newark, O., and David Beckett, of Alliance, Ohio, and three grandchildren, Forrest Samuel Beckett, of Youngstown, and Bobby and Beverly Fox, of New Castle.
Mr. Beckett was a member for many years of Eden Lodge, No. 666, I. O. O. F., of Tidioute, and of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, of Oil City.
Funeral services in his memory were held at two o'clock Saturday afternoon at the family home on West Bridge Street, Tionesta, where a large concourse of relatives and friends gathered to pay their last tribute to his memory. The services were conducted by the Rev. Paul K. Scott, of the Tionesta M. E. church, assisted by the Rev. Wm. E. Thomas, of the Endeavor Presbyterian church. There were many offerings of beautiful flowers. A quartet comprised of Rev. Wm. E. Thomas, Roy Fitzgerald, D. E. Wright and J. E. Albaugh sang "The Old Rugged Cross," "The Beautiful Land," and "Going Down the Valley." Interment was made in Mt. Collins cemetery, the following Odd Fellows lodge brothers acting as pallbearers: H. J. Woodin, J. L. Larson, Lawrence Johnson, Harold Gesin and Paul Ruhlman, of Tidioute, and John C. Carpenter, of East Hickory. C. E. Christensen, J. T. Smith, A. C. Koch and Grant Husted, of Oil City Division 173, B. L. E., were also in attendance.
Relatives and friends in attendance from a distance were: Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Beckett and son, of Youngstown, O.; Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Fox and two children, of New Castle; David Beckett and daughter, of Alliance, O.; W. H. Beckett and son James, of Canton, O.; Mrs. Frank Beckett and son Frank Jr., of Conneaut, O.; Mrs. Cordie Van Camp, of Buffalo, N. Y.; Mr. and Mrs. John Noble, of Erie; Mrs. Myrtle Shriver, of Knox; Mr. and Mrs. Myron Noel and John Lusher, of Franklin; Jack Lusher, Robert Ford, Mr. and Mrs. Carlin and Mrs. Mae Butters, of Oil City; Mrs. Charles Gesin, of Tidioute Mrs. Culbertson and Mrs. Shaderline, of East Hickory, and many others whose names could not be secured.

Mrs. Hattie Beckett Sherwood
Mrs. Hattie Beckett Sherwood, mother of Mrs. Martha Beckett Fox of 811 East Washington street, died in the Southside hospital, Youngstown, Friday at 1 a. m. Mrs. Sherwood resided with her daughter here.
Mrs. Sherwood was born in Clearfield county, 1867. She was a member of the Westminster church of Youngstown, O., and the auxiliary to B. of L. E.
Surviving are her husband, Louis Sherwood, and the following children; Mauntie Beckett of Youngstown, O., and Mrs. Martha Beckett Fox, this city, with whom she made her home; sisters: Mrs. Myron Noel of Oil City, Mrs. Alice Noble, Erie, and Mrs. Jack Payne, Oil City; three grandchildren, Forrest Beckett of Youngtown, Robert Fox of this city now serving in New Guinea and Beverly Fox, this city; and one great-grandson, Billy Beckett of Youngstown.
Funeral services will be held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock from the Shriver & Allison funeral home, Youngstown. Interment will be Monday at Mt. Collins cemetery, Tionesta, Pa.
Friends will be received at the funeral home this evening from 7 to 9 o'clock.

MRS. HATTIE B. SHERWOOD
Mrs. Hattie Beckett Sherwood, 78, wife of Louis E. Sherwood, of 811 E. Washington Street, New Castle, Pa., and well known as a former resident of Tionesta, died at 12:01 a. m., Friday, April 20, 1945, at the Youngstown, Ohio, Hospital.
She was the daughter of the late Philip and Sarah Smith Lusher. She was twice married and with her first husband, the late Samuel T. Beckett, made her home for many years at Endeavor. Following his retirement from active work by the Wheeler & Dusenbury Company they removed to Tionesta and resided for a number of years in their home on West Bridge Street, which she later sold to Mr. and Mrs. H. D. Wagner. Until her marriage with Mr. Sherwood she had been making her home in Youngstown, O.
Surviving are her husband; a son, M. W. Beckett of Youngstown, O.; a daughter, Mrs. Glenn Fox, of New Castle; three grandchildren; a great grandchild; and three sisters, Mrs. Alice Noel and Mrs. Jack Payne of Oil City, and Mrs. Elizabeth Noble of Erie.
A funeral service in her memory was held at 2 p. m. Sunday at the Shriver-Allison funeral home, in Youngstown. Interment was in Mt. Collins cemetery, Tionesta, Monday forenoon.
