General Notes: Husband - Eli W. Beck

He was born near Dubuque, Jackson County, Iowa, and accompanied his parents while still an infant to Greensburg, Pennsylvania. He received his education in the public schools of Ludwick. After completing his studies he entered the grocery business as a sort of partner to his father, who was at that time founding such an enterprise in Greensburg. Here he remained as an assistant to the elder man until the latter's death, when he succeeded to the business jointly with his brother, George E. Beck. In the hands of these two young men, the enterprise increased greatly and became one of the largest and most successful of its kind in the city. At one time he held the position of vice-president of the Greensburg Grocery Company, which he was largely instrumental in organizing. This concern, which was engaged in the wholesale grocery business, was largely operated by Mr. Beck.
Like all the members of his family, Mr. Beck was a strong Democrat in politics, and took a great interest in the success of that party. He was elected to the City Common Council on its ticket and also held the office of school director in the community.
