It is not known positively when the Beck family was founded here and it is not certain whether Daniel Beck was born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, or came there at an early age from some other part of the country. The great balance of probability, however, is in favor of the former supposition, and in any event the greater portion of his life was spent in Hempfield township, where he was engaged for many years in the occupation of farming.
