General Notes: Husband - Ferdinand Weigand

He was born in Berne, Switzerland. He came to the United States in 1860 and enlisted in the Fifty-eighth New York Regiment. He served five years in the army and was wounded several times. He was in all the major engagements including Gettysburg, Bull Run, Chattanooga, etc. His object in coming to the United States was to enlist in the war. After his return to civilian life he came to Butler, Pennsylvania. He learned the watchmaking business in his father's watch factory in Switzerland. He was a college graduate and spoke and wrote in seven languages.
When Mr. Weigand first came to Butler he worked in the store of Charles Weismann, jeweler, later going into business for himself. He conducted this jewelry business until 1883, when he retired.
He was a Republican, a member of the Presbyterian Church, Grand Army of the Republic, and Veteran's Legion.
