He was a Scottish Highlander who came to America when a youth of sixteen summers, and was very successful in farming. He was a captain in the War of 1812. He was a Democrat in his politics, and served his township as supervisor and as school director.

She was born in Germany, and removed with her parents to America when she was nineteen years of age. She died at the age of seventy-four.
