He was reared to the lumber business, but he resided on a farm near Mount Rock, Penn Township, Cumberland County, Pennsylvania, after his marriage.
He owned a circular-saw mill, connected with his father's general lumber manufacturing establishment, at Huntsdale, Cumberland County. In politics he was a Democrat. He filled the office of assessor for one term. He was also a school director.
