Samuel Thorngate.
Samuel Thorngate, an old resident of this section, died at 11:30 o'clock Friday morning at the residence of his grandson, Jasper, on the Meadville Pike, after an illness of a few days, following failing health for some months.
He was born in England on February 16, 1849, and was therefore aged 79 years, 10 months and 12 days. He was married in Wales to Miss Cecelia Williams who preceded him in death on September 5, 1926.
Shortly after their marriage he came to America where he obtained employment in the coal mines of Ohio and later was joined by his wife at Canal Fulton, O. He followed coal mining most of his life and until compelled to retire on account of advancing age.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter as follows: Thomas E., of Franklin; Obie E., of Canton, O., and Mrs. E. F. Randall, of Toledo, O. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Mr. Thorugate has been a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows for nearly 50 years, being at the time of death a member of Rockland Lodge, this county. He was a man of sterling integrity, and highly regarded by all his acquaintances and friends.
His daughter, Mrs. Randall, being in California at present, funeral announcement can not be made until word has been received from her.
