General Notes: Husband - Col. William G. Thompson
He studied law with Samuel A. Purviance. He removed to Marion, Iowa. He served as Colonel of the Twentieth Regiment Iowa Infantry. Afterward, he represented his district in the Forty-sixth and Forty-seventh Congresses. [HBC 1883, 338] His brother is also refered to with the same honorific on pg 75.
He read law under William Timblin, of Butler, and was admitted to the bar November 15, 1853. He moved to Iowa shortly afterward, settling in Linn County. During the Civil War he served as major of an Iowa regiment, and later represented his district in the Forty-seventh and Forty-eighth Congresses. [HBC 1909, 246]
