He was a graduate of the Andover Academy, Massachusetts, and was admit­ted to practice law on June 29, 1882.

He was admitted to the bar June 29, 1883. He was associated with his father in the practice of law until the latter's death, but thereafter devoted most of his time to manufacturing interests. [HBC 1909, 262]
