He attended McAlisterville Academy and Airy View Academy in Juniata County, Pennsylvania, and graduated from the Dental College, Philadelphia, 1872. He assisted in establishing the Kansas City Dental College in 1884, and lectured there subsequently and until his death. He lectured at the Philadelphia Dental College 1899-1900, and contributed frequently to dental journals and was the author of a text book on dental anatomy. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church
